Today in country music history:

2008 - Alan Jackson's album Good Time went gold.

2007 - Rodney Atkins received a diploma from Tennessee Tech in Cookeville 14 years after he stopped taking classes. School officials discovered he'd earned enough credits for a newly created degree.

1991 - Travis Tritt got his first platinum album for Country Club.

1985 - Alabama became the first country act to go quadruple-platinum with both Mountain Music and Feels So Right. Their album The Closer You Get was certified triple-platinum.

1968 - Johnny Cash recorded the Carl Perkins-written "Daddy Sang Bass" in Nashville with The Statler Brothers and Jan Howard singing with him.

1955 - Johnny Cash recorded the first version of "Folsom Prison Blues" at the Sun Recording Studio in Memphis.

1954 – Elvis Presley gave his first live performance at the Overton Park Shell in Memphis.
